Course Overview

This course is designed to equip students with the skills, knowledge and the understanding necessary to achieve high performance in the global built environment and renewable technologies construction sector. Construction and the Built Environment is a priority skills area and there are many opportunities for those qualified in this area to progress into employment as designers, engineers, contractors or as consultants. The BTEC Higher National Certificate in Construction qualifications have been updated for 2023 to link more directly to sector career pathways. The course will allow you the opportunity to find your specialism/ pathway in the areas of Construction Management, Architectural Technology, Modern Methods of Construction, Quantity Surveying or Civil Engineering. Over 2 years, you will complete a Higher National Certificate in a chosen construction pathway. Successful completion of the HNC course will allow students to progress to the Level 5 Higher National Diploma qualification at NWRC or to another higher education qualification such as a university degree in a construction, renewable technologies or a built environment related area. The course will provide you with an understanding of the way technologies are transforming the industries of construction, renewable technologies and the built environment to prepare you to work with these technologies within a challenging and rewarding industry.

Successful completion of the course will allow students to progress onto the Level 5 Higher National Diploma in Construction and the Built Environment at NWRC or to another higher education qualification such as a university degree in a construction and the built environment related area.

In developing the programme, the Awarding Body, Pearson BTEC, have aligned content to meet requirements of a number of professional bodies, including the Institution of Civil Engineers, Chartered Institute of Architectural technologists and the Chartered Institute of Building. The course will prepare students for employment in a range of careers in construction and the built environment, including architectural technology, civil engineering, building services engineering, quantity surveying, construction management, either with design consultants, contractors or the public sector.
