Course Overview

Plumbers can work across many industries, including Gas, Renewables and Oil. Plumbing is well recognised as a necessary skill for the future economy. As a NWRC student you will participate in a range of enrichment workshops built into all level 3 programmes. Our students also have the opportunity to compete in Regional and UK Competitions with the aim of progressing to World Skills. Participation in competition and winning awards enhances the student’s Curriculum Vitae and may lead to exciting employment opportunities. Many students that have completed the Plumbing L3 qualification have went on to have very successful careers such as opening their own business, site supervisors, diversifying into other building services jobs in the fast growing renewable energy area. The skills developed at the college and workplace have made this career choice a area for the majority a avenue for sustained and long term employment.

Entry Requirements

UK Requirements

GCSE Maths, English & ICT at Grade C or above. You must also have employment with a N.Ireland registered company confirmed and hold a level 2 Plumbing and heating NVQ prior to entry.

ROI Requirements

Leaving Certificate English, Maths & ICT at Grade O5 or above. You must also have employment with a N.Ireland registered company confirmed and hold a level 2 Plumbing and heating NVQ prior to entry.

On successful completion of the Level 3 Diploma through Apprenticeship NI further progression options including the Higher National Certificate; Higher National Diploma; NEBOSH; Degree options HE.

Career Prospects

Many plumbers progress to design, consultancy, teaching and management, making the plumbing and heating industry a career with a long-term future. Plumbers with GCSE English, Math’s and ICT can also become College Lecturers.SalaryDepending on where you work or if you are employed/self-employed you can earn a good hourly and weekly wage. London and big city plumber’s wages can exceed the average wage of £15,000 to £40,000. If you work hard and are recognised as a good plumber, your earnings will give you a good standard of living.
