CPCAB Level 2 Certificate in Counselling Skills &CPCAB Level 3 Certificate in Counselling Theory or equivalentGCSE English or Literacy L2 or be able to demonstrate the ability to write clearly and coherently.Access NI Check.An interview is required to determine suitability and readiness for this professional training course.This qualification is not suitable for those who are currently in a state of severe emotional difficulty and/or severe psychological distress. The course involves experiential elements that will involve some personal disclosure and associated personal developmental activities.Criteria considered important for selecting candidates:Identify reasons for training beyond just personal development? Provide references? Academically and emotionally able to cope with this level of training? Ability to work with difference and diversity? Possess personal qualities of imagination, intuition, openness and ability to benefit from self-development. ? Ability to form a therapeutic relationship? Self-awareness, insight, honesty and integrity? Emotional stability and the absence of personality disturbance? Ability to challenge and be challenged? Ability to respond sensitively and empathically to others? Capability to begin working with clients within an agency setting? Additional Information
In addition to college attendance the following are also required.
Personal counselling – a minimum of 10 hours face to face personal therapy during the course (to accommodate a range of theoretical approaches).
Client work – a minimum of 100 hours formally-contracted counselling (one- to-one) with at least 5 different clients in an agency setting. Cancellations and non-attends do not count towards this total.
Clinical Supervision – Candidates require clinical supervision for their agency client work. In addition, candidates require 30-50 hours group training supervision as part of the course.
Please note the additional costs associated with professional training in Counselling.
Supervision costs can be £30-40 every 8 clients hours = approx £500
Personal Therapy can be £30-40 x 10 sessions = approx. £400
Counselling Insurance = approx. £80
Registration with Professional Body = approx. £80
Places on this course are limited. Candidates are advised to prepare well in advance for the interview process. Interview decisions will be final.
Candidates wishing to progress to Level 4 TC should actively seek to secure a suitable counselling placement to complete clinical hours prior to the interview.
