Course Overview

This course is equivalent to 2-3 ‘A’ levels and can equip you with knowledge and skills required for a wide range of careers within the Travel and Tourism industry.You will be given the opportunity to participate in a range of site visits that allows observation of the Tourism industry in practice. Some of these site visits involve a financial cost. If you do not hold a Level 2 qualification in Numeracy or Literacy you will be given the opportunity to complete these during this course to enhance your employability and progression prospects. Both Numeracy and Literacy are required for progression to Higher Level courses.A wide range of units are studied to give a broad understanding of the industry to include: Customer Service; Travel Destinations; UK Attractions; Travel Agency; Airlines; Airports; Tour Guiding; The Cruise Industry; Work Placement & Careers; Tour Operations to name but a few.

Entry Requirements

UK Requirements

4 GCSEs (Grade C or above) preferably to include English.

ROI Requirements

4 OLCs (Grade O5 or above) preferably to include English; Leaving Cert Applied – Merit.

Work Placement

Currently a work placement is required to be undertaken. Students will have the opportunity to apply for and work in areas such as hotels, restaurants, attractions, museums and with tour guiding companies.

Fee Information

  • Additional Fees
  • Field Trips - £25 required for attendance on study visits – payable as and when trips are confirmed throughout each year of the programme.
  • Kits - £25 required for attendance on study visits – payable as and when trips are confirmed throughout each year of the programme.
  • Other - A residential unit is a possibility for year 2 of the programme and costs will vary depending on activities and location selected by the class cohort.

Further Study

After completing this programme, you may choose to progress to the Foundation Degree in Hospitality & Tourism Management within the College or enter employment within the industry.
