Course Overview

Modules of study will include: Introduction to Biology and Chemistry for Bioscience, Scientific Communication, Maths and Statistics for Bioscience, Human Physiology & Anatomy, Chemistry, Laboratory Practice for Applied & Medical Sciences, Cell Biology, Biochemistry and Human Nutrition, Professional Practice in the Laboratory, Lab Skills and Safety, Introduction to Evidence-based Professional Practice and Work Based Learning. The course will be delivered over 6 semesters which is equivalent to 3 years of study. In year 3, you are expected to complete a work based learning module which will consist of 320 hours work in a science based industry.

Entry Requirements

UK Requirements

48 UCAS points including an A level pass in a science subject (Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Maths or equivalent), and 3 GCSE level (Grades A, B or C) and/or AS Level or alternative approved qualifications (eg. Access Diploma with at least one science module) to include English Grade C or equivalent (eg. Essential skills level 2 communications) and GCSE Maths Grade C (Please note - Level 2 Essential Skills Numeracy is not accepted).  Interview required.  Accreditation of Prior Experiential Learning (APEL) may be considered for entry. ROI Entry: 48 UCAS points including 1 Higher Leaving Cert Pass (Grade D/H6) in Science (Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Maths or equivalent) + OLC (Grade 04 or above) to include Maths, English and science.  Interview required.  Accreditation of Prior Experiential Learning (APEL) may be considered for entry.

Upon completion of this course, you may progress into the second year of existing Honours degree programmes at Ulster University based on the 3 + 2 model (3 years part-time followed by 2 years at UU full-time). You can progress to similar degrees at other universities or begin to explore employment opportunities in this field including Pharmacy Technician, Dietetic assistant, Cardiology Technician, Audiology Technician, Basic Level Pharmacology staff, School technician and other similar roles.
