Course Overview

This course is designed for those with mild to moderate learning disabilities, and provides a wide range of learning opportunities to help with employment or progression onto further courses. Classes are small with a high lecturer to student ratio, as well as classroom support staff. The aim is to provide students with the opportunity to improve educational qualifications and improve future work opportunities. For some students this means working on areas such as self-esteem, social anxiety and self-confidence. We incorporate health and wellbeing throughout the course.After two years, students will receive OCN Level 1/2 certificates in Vocational Skills and Employability Skills.Students can take an optional project-based learning module -This involves using the students ideas to create new products and run small enterprises. This exciting and innovative way of learning provides opportunities for team working, leadership and development of communication skills.All applicants will be interviewed, and parents, and relevant professionals may attend. Arrangements for meeting individual support needs will be discussed to ensure that students have every opportunity to succeed.

Work Placement

We offer a 4-week Mencap ‘Job Club’, giving students the opportunity to discuss previous work experience, work interests with Mencap staff and prepare for work placement. Work placement will be arranged and supervised by Mencap staff for one day a week.
