Course Overview

This course provides opportunities for learners to develop key skills to work in the uniformed services. It will be of particular interest for those who wish to pursue a career in the Police, Fire, Ambulance, and Prison as well as the Armed Services (Army, Navy, and RAF), HM Customs and Excise and other emergency related organisations. Our Limavady campus is an ideal location with access to numerous uniformed service providers. The purpose of this course is to help people become occupationally ready for employment in the uniformed public services sector at the appropriate level either directly after achieving the qualification, or via the steppingstone of Higher Education (HE) in university or college. Assessments are mostly internally set assignments e.g. essays, reports, practical assessments, or role plays. There are 2 external exams on the course. The course combines theory-based lessons with practical sessions such as outdoor adventure, and fitness testing and training. The course and teaching team is led by UK Pearson Silver Award winning lecturer Ivor Neill.

4 GCSE’s (grade C or above) OR Level 2 Diploma

ROI Requirements

4 OLC (Grade O5 or above) OR Leaving Certificate applied – Merit

Work Placement

In year 2 of the course we offer the opportunity to complete an Erasmus project to a European country. In 2019 students travelled to Malta for two-week work placements. On this course you will also get the opportunity to complete your Emergency First Aid qualification, and engage in Outdoor Adventure expeditions, day trips, and a residential. Work placement will form part of this programme of study.
