Course Overview

This qualification enables the learner, to demonstrate and recognise your skills, knowledge and understanding so you can work as a Wall and Floor Tiler within the construction industry. During the course the learner will be trained to industry standard and assessed against the awarding body criteria. The full apprenticeship qualification is also mapped to the Apprenticeship Framework N.Ireland resulting in the learner undertaking a L3 Diploma and a L3 NVQ qualification. The L3 Diploma will be achieved within the college using a range of learning and assessment. The L3 NVQ will be achieved by evidence gathered form the workplace and also assessed on site by a college lecturer. Our students also have the opportunity to compete in Regional and UK Competitions with the aim of representing your country at World Skills. To succeed every NWRC student requires determination, a love of the subject, commitment to your studies and a good work ethic.

Course Modules

  • Produce tiles, mosaic and stone surface finishes
  • Provide Drainage for Tiled Surfaces
  • Produce Internal and external sand and cement backgrounds
  • Prepare the background and tile out a wet room
  • Knowledge of building methods and construction technology
  • Knowledge of information, quantities and communicating with others
  • Know how to carry out safe working practices in construction

Entry Requirements

UK Requirements

GCSE Maths, English & ICT at Grade C or above and Level 2 vocational qualification in Wall and Floor tiling is required prior to course entry. You must also have employment with a N.Ireland registered company confirmed.

ROI Requirements

Leaving Certificate English, Maths & ICT at Grade O5 or above and Level 2 vocational qualification in Wall and Floor tiling prior to course entry. You must also have employment with a N.Ireland registered company confirmed.

Attendance at Information Session

Work Placement

You are employed so your attendance at NWRC is 1 day per week to complete the Level 3 qualification and you will also be assessed on site by NWRC Assessor.

Further Study

On completion of this qualification you will have obtained the skills, knowledge and understanding to progress on to a higher level supervisory or management qualifications to include the Higher National Certificate, Higher National Diploma, NEBOSH, Degree options HE.

Career Prospects

Typical Salaries Starter: £17,000 to £20,000Experienced: £20,000 to £30,000Highly Experienced: £30,000 to £38,000With experience and extra training, you could become a site supervisor, clerk of works or contract manager. You could also work as a trainer and assessor on tiling courses or set up your own business.
