Course Overview

This course is equivalent to GCSEs and is designed as an introduction to the health and social care sector. External visits and visiting speakers will enable students to develop a deeper knowledge about this sector. Additional education in the area of visual awareness and sensory loss will be provided. Successful completion at the appropriate level enables students to apply for progression onto Level 3 pathways such as Extended Diploma in Health & Social Care/Health Studies/Health Sciences.

UK Requirements

4 GCSEs Grade D-G or above to include Maths Grade D and English Grade DStudents who do not hold Level 2 qualifications in Literacy and Numeracy will be required to complete these during this course.Students who do not hold Grade D in English and Maths will be able to apply to complete the Full Time Level 1 First Diploma in Health and Social Care.

ROI Requirements

4 OLCs Grade O6 or above to include Maths and English Grade 05 or above Students who do not hold Level 2 qualifications in Literacy and Numeracy will be required to complete these during this course. Students who do not hold Grade D in English and Maths will be able to apply to complete the Full Time Level 1 First Diploma in Health and Social Care.

Work Placement

Work placement is an essential component of this course. Enrolment on this course is subject to checks, including a satisfactory Access NI check. As placement is an integral part of your qualification, a self-declaration of current health status is necessary as part of the overall risk assessment process. Students must be deemed fit for placement.

Further Study

Students who have successfully completed this qualification with the required grade can progress to Level 3 Health and Social Care pathways.
