Course Overview

This course combines the practical hands-on experience of the workplace with the knowledge, skills and understanding gained in the College classroom and workshops enabling you to successfully achieve a Level 2 NVQ in Motor Vehicle Maintenance and Repair. This course entails everything from bumper to bumper on a light vehicle that will allow you to competently work on all aspects of light vehiclesCore modules include:• Health and Safety• Positive Working Relationships• Fabrication• Vehicle Servicing• Engine principles and operation• Vehicle Electrical Systems• Vehicle Chassis Systems• Vehicle Transmission systems.Our students also have the opportunity to compete in Regional and UK Competitions with the aim of representation at World Skills. To succeed every NWRC student requires determination, a love of the subject, commitment to your studies and a good work ethic.Students who enter programme without Maths, English and ICT at grade C or above must also attend additional essential skills which allows for progression to Level 3.The Awarding Body for this course is IMI.

Entry Requirements

UK Requirements

GCSE Maths and English at Grade C or above. You must also have employment with a N.Ireland registered company confirmed. Applicants without ICT @ Level 2 must commit to additional class for this to be achieved in first year of programme. PT evening ICT classes @nwrc available prior to September 2023.

ROI Requirements

Leaving Certificate English and Maths at Grade O5 or above. You must also have employment with a N.Ireland registered company confirmed. Applicants without ICT @ Level 2 must commit to additional class for this to be achieved in first year of programme. PT evening ICT classes @nwrc available prior to September 2023.

Additional Requirements Prior to Entry

Work Placement

You are employed so you attend NWRC 1 day per week to complete the Level 2 qualification and you will also be assessed on site by NWRC Assessor. You may also be required to attend college on days outside of the normal class day should Ess. skills be required.

Further Study

On successful completion of level 2 qualification it is possible to complete level 3 through Apprenticeship NI route or part time FE route. Students go on to L4/5 and Degree programmes and our Lecturers have all come through the Apprenticeship programme.

Salary GuideStarter: £18,000Experienced: £21,000 to £27,000Highly Experienced: £28,000 to £35,000With experience, you could become a senior technician, workshop supervisor or garage manager.You could work as a breakdown engineer or MOT tester, or specialise in a particular area like motorsport engineering.You could also work on electric and hybrid cars, or specialise in tuning and modifying vehicles for higher performance.You could also set up your own business.
