Course Overview

This course is of interest to those wishing to learn about health and social care, providing adult learners with an opportunity to gain a qualification which can be used as a progression pathway to higher education. It can help you progress to professional courses such as nursing, midwifery, social work, youth/community work, occupational therapy and other degree courses in the social science/ health studies field. Over the one year you will study the following: Health and welfare; research; study skills including ICT; human anatomy and physiology; psychology and microbiology. Students will also study NICATS Mathematics alongside the course. You will attend classes over 3.5 days per week with additional time to undertake independent reading and study.Students following the full-time course should refer to entrance criteria.

Entry Requirements

UK Requirements

1 Year, Entry Requirements: A pass in GCSE English Language Grade C/4 or GCSE Mathematics Grade C/4 or acceptable equivalent. Applications from students who have been away from full-time education for a sustained period of time (minimum two consecutive academic years) immediately prior to commencing the Access Diploma will be considered. An interview is also required. Applicants may also be asked to demonstrate a level of literacy and numeracy. Applicants without GCSE English Language Grade C/4 and GCSE Mathematics Grade C/4 or acceptable equivalent should study Essential Skills Level 2, Communication and Application of Number/GCSE English Language and Mathematics independently in addition to the course (depending on University requirements). Applicants who have already achieved Essential Skills Communication at Level 2 and Essential Skills Application of Number at level 2 or acceptable equivalent should check (at the beginning of the Access Diploma) with the Admission’s Office/Service of the University of their choice to ensure these qualifications fulfil the entrance requirements for their chosen Universities. International applicants - If English is not your first language you must satisfy the College requirements for IELTS scores or acceptable equivalent.

Applicants may apply to study Foundation Degree / HNC or other degree level study. It can also help you progress to professional education courses such as nursing, midwifery, social work, youth/community work, occupational therapy and other degree courses in the social science/ health studies field.
